Meet at 10.30 a.m. at Dalkeith: St John’s & King’s Park Church

The ruins of old Cockpen Church are fenced off, and it’s hard to see much of the church and graveyard given the walls and vegetation. As a result, we will only go as far as the hotel grounds at Lothianbridge, stop for a lunch break there before about turning. Even though you pretty much retrace your steps, it’s amazing what different things you notice going in the opposite direction!

Travel/Parking

If coming by car, park in Park Road not Morrisons car park.  For those coming by bus, the 140 goes through Loanhead just before 10, arriving at Dalkeith at 10.18 just in time for our start.

Lunch

Bring a picnic lunch and, if wanted, a poly bag or ground sheet to sit on.

Paths

The paths are pretty good, just a few places where it gets a bit muddy, but nothing too bad.  Please come prepared with appropriate footwear.

Reflections on the way

We will stop on the way for some reflections

Timings

We reckon including lunch break and a couple of short interludes for reflection, total time will be about 4 hours/4 hours 30 mins, but it does depend on the pace of the slowest participant.
